I Do What I Must (Phantom) Empty

More bones were on show then ever before, the ribs of the once proud stallion shining clearing under the dull, ebony pelt.
The brown eyes, dull and lifeless, held the prospect of one wish.
To get his queen back.
But to do so, he had to force the queen of all and that mere thought made his heart ache at what he was about the do.
How could he do that to his king? To his half-brother? But his queen was more important, and truly it was only one foal.
Maybe if he asked...she might be willing to help.

The sticks, once well muscled legs, moved up the sandy beach. Nose brushed the salted water, eyes peeling for life.
And there it was, the proud aging king descending upon his sickly, heart broken brother.

Ashton's eyes filled with worry, knowing all was not well. He knew of Blizzard being taken, but not how sickly his brother had become. But he had guessed as much, the same thing had happened the last time she had been taken.

"Ashwin, what has become of you?" he said quietly, head shaking as his bodice came to a standstill beside him.
"Nothing Ashton...I must speak with your queen," he replied, looking somewhat desperate, harks flickering nervously.
Ashton hesitated, unsure what the sickly stag wanted with his queen but nodded. He was known to lend a hand to those in need.

Light hues danced with silvery moonlight upon a crisp autumn pelt. From the entire upper-portion of the lands, soft murmurs could be heard. Her small physique navigated across the rugged stone foundation, clanking softly with each floaty stride. Crystal orbs shone with their gorgeous amethyst glow, piercing through the shadows with their direct warmth and light. Intuitive shone in them, along with placidity that had grown from the origin of her and was prevalent in every action the regal queen presented. Both inside and out, she was completely composed, tranquil like a shimmering lake at midnight, residing in the most humblest of abodes with the love of her life.

Dainty daggers ambled through the colorful soft hued flora and up to the top of a small summit. To the left, a tributary swirled about to mix the wild, raging waters with the pure innocence of the fresh waters. Their azure brilliance captured every moment of her attention for as long as life made its indention upon them all. Every day, new scar was made on her heart. Since the beginning of her time in the land where the oceanic reeds grew around her pillars and softly caressed her, the scars made had been the sweetest ones she had ever felt. Eventually, though, they would be evened by terrible incidents, ones that would crush her hope and demean her of all that brilliance she had felt with the perfect night hued king of all.

Thoughts from the mind of the queen of all dangled freely on the light gales that played with her tresses stroked with the most beautiful light dun hue. Forward, she strolled more quickly, briskly moving with her extended strides over to the scenes. Before her, was damage shown in many forms in the dim light. Bodily scars laid upon his ebony bodice, extending down to abuse of his form. Protruding from his sides were his ribs, most of his bones showing him. The poor brute looked like a skeleton covered loosely with dead skin. Why not give the pitiful one his last wish? Perhaps, a gentle conversation would satisfy this poor soul.

"Greetings," she said, the soft soprano lyrics carrying her melodious song to his harks with gentle assurance. "What can I help you with, stag?" she asked, wonder glinting in her intelligent orbs. For an idea, she looked to her king but found none. He didn't seem to have any more clue why the older king, Ashwin had come to visit her. Had he been sent? What did he want? A moment of worry crossed through her heart but it was pushed back with that that perfect goodness that always belonged to her. A smile pursed her lips, easy and kind. Silently, she awaited his reply.

Hesitantly, the stallion's orbs landed upon the beautiful, approaching queen. But her beauty meant nothing to him, nothing appeared so such to him anymore. No other could hold his hearts wish.
"My queen..." he said quietly, head bowed though he continued to study her "I am afraid I must do something terrible...something I never want to do, but you must understand she was taken...they stole her from me."
The words came quickly, someone slurred as if the emotion was to great to bare.

"I went the the land of darkness...none else can help and they said they would save her for me if I did then one small task," the once noble head lifted, locking upon her dainty form "I must force the queen of all."

Ashton was between them in an instant, his large ebony mass pushing the sickly stag away from his queen.
"Ashwin," he warned, eyes glowering down at the stag before flickering to his queen, wondering what she would say to such a thing.

Ashwin hurried to finish his words.
"You know I am no forcer Ashton, I never wished to hurt anyone...I just need her back," he pleaded with the king of all, begging him to understand.
Eyes darted to the mare over Ashton, pleading her as well.
"Please my queen..."

Solemness laid in the air between them before he spoke his words, clear displeasure in the coming to the royal kingdom. But, why, she asked herself, would be be appalled? This territory was for all to enjoy, except for those with evil intentions and hearts clouded with bitterness. Confusion seemed to sweep over his expression, followed by a nasty twinge of guilt shining in his lifeless eyes. At first, she concluded that he was up to no good, but that longing in his eye just told her that he was conflicted and willing to make shallow decisions to get a long lost love back. Sangita wondered, still to herself why the royals should appease the lowlifes that wanted things from them which they could not give. It was saddening to see how a well respected king with a good reputation could go from his stature to something below even the most scummy hellions. In thinking so , she knew she was doing wrong. Judging others was not the job of the king and queen - it was the job of the gods, and she promised herself not to, no matter how disturbing the situation here got.

His next words stole the breath right from her velvety lips as she stepped back, abhorred by his suggestion. It was horrible for such a previously well-respected king to behave in such a manner. Why, again, had her king granted him permission to herd in the lands? Surely, he was not as insane to suggest such a terrible consequence for wasting her time on him. Before anyone could move, her vision blurred, focusing back to see her night hued king standing before her. Stepping back, she felt the waves crash against the back of her hock, forcing her to stand directly behind him. "You should not have gone there. By doing so, you have cut all alliances with us, and we are not obliged to help you," Sangita stated firmly, her tense form standing perfectly still as she said her terse, clipped phrases.

Sangita was just a little freaked out by his words, yet she showed nothing under her facade of tranquility. If they had no fear to relate to, they wouldn't be as inclined to break rules. "The answer is no, Ashwin," she replied, wondering if someone would dare to defy her order. Even someone with a weakened mental state would not go against the greater rule. If he did, he would be punished justly by exile from the royal territory, and then, he would never get her back. "You have one chance. Leave, and perhaps, she will find her own way back to you....if she loves you," she replied softly, nearly whispering her words. It must have felt terrible for him to lose his only true love, but he simply could not get what he wanted by showing up on their soil and asking to force her. It was pitiful....even pathetic to do that. Sangita just hoped he found alternatives before he died of starvation and thirst.

"Listen," she paused cautiously, deciding to do most of the talking in this conversation to convince him not to go through with this ridiculous forcing idea that he proposed. "Why don't you go home and have a nice meal? Drink some water, play with the others in your land," she tried to smile but found that grim expression glued to her features. "It'll be okay," she replied gently, glancing over to Ashton for some sort of support. For now, he was her only protection against this great evil that was welling in the lower king's heart. "Don't listen to the darkness; it will cause you only pain," she said, leaning her skull against Ashton's shoulder. Sangita already decided he was a hypocrite for coming and trying to wreck his brothers' queen's life when he was complaining so much how his own queen's was wrecked. The fae couldn't say she didn't care because she did. Everything bad that happened in the lands concerned her, but they simply could not lose the vampires as an ally, even though the royals didn't know which way the oldest vampire would go in battle yet.

No anger sparked in his lifeless orbs at her words, he merely nodded, he knew it hopeless to ask her such a thing. But there was no other choice, her plan of resting and playing with the others in his lands, a she so kindly put it, was not an option. His daughter was long gone and in love with another, the lands were empty of all but himself. And he simply could not relax without his love by his side.

He watched as Ashton gently nuzzled his queen in comfort, the love within his orbs clear and shining bright. He wondered what the king of all did if she was taken from him, he at least had almost everyone on his side. So many would who die searching for him, to seek his approval. A little flare of jealously rose at his lucky brother, but he quickly pushed it away. It never did anyone any good to be jealous.

"I am sorry...my queen," he murmured "tis why I asked and not the deed first.."
A last look at Ashton, the thin form turned and walked painfully from the lands. He was losing all hope, another piece of his heart seemed to chip away at the mere thoughts.

Ashton turned his noble head to his queen, the soft green eyes having been watching the thin bodice hobble away.
"Are you alright dear?" he asked gently, lips tugging at the silky strands of her mane with affection. She had done the right thing, it had been her choice to give. As much as he wanted to help the stallion, giving him a foal from his own queen was simply not an option.
Harks flickered back the direction he had disappeared, a sigh sigh escaping his kissers.
"Do you think he will be alright?" he asked "he only just got her back as well....the humans took her."
"I might keep a close eye on him over the next few months, see what I can do for him," he mused quietly to himself "there must be something we can do to help..."
