The Herd of Zandere(Erosaf, Kanny)

To the unobservant eye, it was a barren wasteland with minimal vegetation and few specs of beauty that one could glance at from afar. But, to the orbs of deep golden, it was as beautiful as Eleazar, thriving with life from the smallest of insects that scraped the grains of sand to the furry camels that voyaged throughout the rolling sand dunes that populated the desert. Sand drifts piled what seemed a mile high against rocky drifts, and the sun seemed to shine continuously. Even when it was winter, the warmth seemed to shine through in some way or form. It was his home - beautiful, just like those he shared it with. Speaking of them, where were they?

Being what he was - a hellion, came with its own benefits. Rarely was his herd challenged, and there was, of course the advantage in battle of having more natural born strength and speed...as well as his flames. What he hated the most about what he was, though was that the average creatures that lived in all of nature around him disapproved of him because of his blood.

Hellion.

The word struck fear into the hearts of everyone, and he could see their tension when the word was even mentioned. It was treated as a threat, a intimidation of diction. In their minds, they did not imagine the brave and honorable Zandere plunging into battle against the darker forces at work in the world. They did not see those who were known for their kindness instead of brutish strength like Thowra, a good friend. No, instead, they let one bad egg spoil the whole bunch. They thought of Frenzy. And Satan. And Temia. Syria. Exile. Corus. How many more were there?

Perhaps, that image could change. His dearest Charasma surely wished it would, and maybe...just maybe they could have offspring to prove that the world is better with hellions like them in it.

Deep liver was the hue of his pelt, thick muscles rippling beneath the thin outer layer of his pelt. It gleamed, like the sun would reflect off of shimmering metallic structures in the cities where humans inhabited. Deep golden were his orbs, comparable to the lively bright sunlit hue of his flames that slowly flickered around his pillars and on the crest of his boa. A blaze his skull carried upon it, the perfect ivory trickling down to his nostrils. A sigh escaped his lips as he tread to the top of a massive sand dune. Where were they? He needed to speak to them.

Harmony and Charasma. They were his only loves, the only thing he knew was pure and true. Both were the purest of hues, the pure hue of ivory glistening like freshly fallen snow. How beautiful they were, and how he wished to spend every living, waking moment with them, in their gentle embraces. One was winged, feathers like heaven caressing her slim bodice, delicate and beautiful. The other, Charasma, was much like himself, although pure ivory, she was a hellion, a member of the fallen hellion Exile's herd.

"Charasma, Harmony," he called out, his vocals warm and kind. "I must speak with you, darlings," he added, waiting beside a rather large tree whose shade descended upon him in a rather pleasant way. It was all about the wait now. The wait.

She neighed, hearing Zandere calling to her. She knew that there was something he wanted, and she answered, breaking into a canter willingly. She knew where in the sands she would find him, and she moved gracefully over the sand, white pelt shining as she broke into a gallop.

She reached him soon after. "Zandere."

Full of life and youth was he, orbs shining with the ferocity of a thousand flames as she stepped into the dimming desert light. Heart pounding, throbbing from the top of his skull and pulsing all the way down to the tips of his daggers. Steam escaped his maw as the temperature of his bodice increased, the natural fire within burning rapidly. Inhaling, the sweet scent of his lotus hued love wafted into his nostrils and brightened his day as it always did. The company of his mares was the most wonderful thing he had in life. They were the steps to his dance, the eighth notes to his songs, the beat to his heart even. A smile, filled with joy spread over his features.

Skull bobbing, he nickered to her, a gentle two beat overcome by his pillars as he came closer to her. "Charasma," he whispered, love lightening in his orbs. The sweet taste of short grassland tingled on his tongue, held within his mouth with words he could not say. How he would like to say to her what he felt, and what honor he wished for her to fulfill.

"We shall meet to speak about a few very important issues. But I will wait for Harmony," he said, pausing before his next words. "We are free, Charasma...since Exile's death, I have felt as free as a bird," he whispered closely into her hark. Love filled him, and he nuzzled her shoulder gently, the swarm of pleasure overwhelming his form. How still the day was, and no drama was upon them. What a nice way to spend the day, with the two loves of his life. If only the other would arrive now...it would be wonderful.

She nodded. "Indeed we are free. Exile being beaten was a great thing." She smiled. "Even though I have noticed a gloom settling over Freedoms Palace, one which I am beginning to recognize as the calm before another war."

She snorted. "A war which will tear many apart." She sighed. "I hope that happens to none like us, there are so few of us... nicer hellions."

Her head dropped to snap at the grass under her hooves. "I have not felt as free as this since the day we met," she added as an after thought. "There is a rumour that Thowra is calling those like him to Snowy River Forest."

Dainty hooves clattered over the harsh perks of stone, tumbling mane cascaded over her ivory length and sailed behind her like a mighty banner.
Harks perked at the distant sounds of voices, but her slow mind didn't truely seem to click until her form was before the heavily masculine form of Zandere, her eyes lighting up as she greeted him before looking into the distance, seeming to loose her train of thought.

"Oh, hello Zandere," she said once more, lasping into a silence as she stared at him before allowing her gaze to drop upon the small white fae "and fae."

Darker spirits had tried to corrupt him when he was young, his heritage shining through in some of his most frustrating moments. Now, it was outright horrid, in his mind, how he had reacted to Hemlock when his love fell in love with him. Little did he know of the ebony stag nowadays, but how could he let their friendship slip away? The young brute could only wonder if the ebony stag ever thought of their past and wondered about past friendships that had been broken.

Suddenly, he snapped back to reality. Gravity was slipping as his hold on his emotions did, but he was generally happy. The two made him relatively happy, but what was love without his friends? Being in good relations with others was his only defense against the darkness that was growing in the hot sands. It was difficult more and more every day to fight the growing dark creatures that loomed above his skull. More of the darkness was present than the light.

"Yes, of course," Zandere replied, looking to the ivory beauty neutrally, more focused on the state of the world than them. They all needed to have a chat. "You are all too correct about the war, Charasma. It is a horrid thing...destroying force that will rip many lives apart. I have high hopes that it will not affect our small herd though," he reassured, his warm nose touching her neck lightly. The young stag nodded at the mention of the other leading kind hellion stag other than his sire and himself. They would surely be a force to reckon with when they all went to battle against Frenzy.

Nodded the stag as his other mare arrived to the small, sandy clearing. "Greeting, my dear Harmony. How have you fared lately?" he asked.

"I am glad you both have arrived now, for we have matters to discuss internally in the herd and outside it too," he said, golden kind orbs looking upon them.

"You realize that i will be hunted by more than one when the war starts, don't you? I turned on everyone in my family, and well, that's not just the dead Exile and my mother Chisel. Only one family member of mine looks on me with anything but unfriendly thoughts, and she is the blind fae, Chai Suil. Doitiean and Asylum Escape, as well as my mother hunt her as well." She sighed.

She had to figure out where she, the snow white daughter of Exile would stand in the coming fight, and whether she would fight at all. She knew there were many things to consider at the moment. She knew that most of Exile's sons and daughters, whoever they were, for she did not know of them at all, would consider her a traitor to their family.

She could not turn on those she loved though, she knew that much. It was she who had helped Chai Suil find her way to Saoirse, and she knew that her younger sister was very grateful for her help. She had fought off Asylum Escape once to help Chai. She sighed, trying to think what to do. The evil side to her blood told her not to be a fool and to join with the rest of her family.

The white fae shivered at the thought of turning against Zandere. Zandere who had taught her that not everyone had to follow their parents ways. He'd shown her that there were good hellions as well as bad ones, and it was he who she trusted above most others. That was something she knew quite well at the moment.

There was no other stag that was as important to her as he was. "I will have to travel and see how my sister, Chai Suil is going soon enough. She might be an adult now, but with her being blind, I worry about her falling into a trap any of the rest of our family set for her." She sighed. "Of course that can wait until after we have all talked."

"Oh," she said breathlessly with a giggle "fine and all....just....wandering..." she trailed off, attention gathered by a passing butterfly of the purest of blues before snapping back to the handsome stag before her.

"So," she piped up after the other fae finished, the words seeming to fly fast over her mind "what are we doing here?"

So much had been happening lately, and it had been all too quick for him. Quite simple was the stag, not intellectually of course, but he rather chose to tend to his own business rather than questioning others. Although he had done nothing wrong, there was much that one could question about his past - because truthfully, it had been a difficult journey. Back in the crisped topped mountains during the time where blood boiled, one had to hold their movements precious to their hearts and hope...and know that they would make it out alive. Each moment was unexpectant, and youths were the ones he wanted to eliminate. It had scarred their childhood, yet it would not touch their children to come.

"We shall not worry. Both you and I together are strong enough to protect ourselves and Chai Suli. I shall guard her with my life if you do decide to bring her here," he replied, with a simple bob of his skull. Being noble in a time of crisis told everyone who you truly were, for if you turned coward in a bad situation, how could anyone really trust you?

Easily, he turned his boa back to greet the newest member of his herd, dear Harmony. She looked quite stunning in the morning light, rays rushing over her form as she stepped delicately into the sunlight. It was quite beautiful out today, and her feathered wings seemed to glisten under the sunlight, to him, at least. After all, he thought all of his mares looked beautiful - this one was gorgeous, yet other skills were lacking. And that was putting it nicely.

"Hello, Harmony," he smiled, nuzzling her cheek easily as she came to them. She seemed hardly on this earth, attention grasped by the fluttering wings of a butterfly. It was a shame she had not a grain of sense, yet he loved her the same. "This is our home," he said, looking around. "Sea of Sands," he replied, glad she was at least fascinated with their home.

She chuckled. Soon she would travel to Saoirses land to find her sister. It was something she had to do as the sister of such a beautiful yet blind Fae. If dear Asylum Escape tried anything she would be there to defend her sister.

Zandere thought that perhaps they should get down to the means of his calling a herd meeting, and honestly, it was for many reasons. He surely hoped he was not dis-convenience them by calling this meeting in the warm sands of summer. How brave his favorite two had been through the many moons of their travels and despair from the raging battle that laid ahead of them. They were both so beautiful, but his mind had been made up - and, of course, it would not be polite to change his decision now.

"I wanted to speak with you both about multiple things. I wanted us to make a plan for the war, and I wanted to try to convince you two not to fight in it. And, I would also like to choose a queen," he said softly, glancing upon the both of them.

Charasma smiled lightly. She knew she was happy with whatever he chose, but her not fighting? Impossible. And he likely knew it. Not while her sister was out there to be attacked by others who came searching for her from her family.
She sighed, lowering her head to rub against one of her legs, a itch under her jaw annoying her at the time.

Oh, the delightful sunlight rays shone upon her perfect bodice. She shivered at the sudden warmth, basking in its touch as she siddled closer to her stallion and king, harks pricking at his seemingly distant.

For once, her fleeting attention span seemed fixed upon the stallion at this news.
"Queen?" she piped up with a delicate shift of her slight weight.

Of course she would be queen, she was the best, the most beautiful. All other lands would envy her perfection! Her orange tipped maw arched with her swan-like neck, urging Zandere to continue with the obvious news.

How he hated from the pit of his stomach to displease others.....yet the less qualified fae, as he would think, would hopefully see past his choosing and love him still the same. Surely, it would hurt if one of them were to leave him. Another piece of his heart would go with them, as it had with dear, sweet Melodia. Zandere loathed the words that had rolled from her soft lips when she rejected him and left his heart in shards. Time healed all wounds, so he would explain his reasoning to them as well, for a little logic never hurt anyone.

"There are some who are born to lead, and others were meant to follow. I need a leader - someone who is strong, caring, and brave in the face of danger, even when I don't need her to be," he hinted, grinning slightly as he glanced between them both. "Not just does my queen have to be a good warrior and leader, but I feel as if I must love her with all my heart," he added. "That in mind, I want you both to know how much you mean to me. Even though my choice for queen is Charasma," he said, treading up to her, golden eyes aglow under the blazing sun.

The eyes widened as she stared at him, as though she were shocked at his announcement. She was to be his queen? It was not something she had been anticipating hearing. She would have been fine with the other being queen, had it been that way. She only wondered though whether it was the right choice that he had made, and whether Harmony would be as accepting of her as the beta queen of Seas of Sand. And what would Snow Angel think, having a pure hellion as the beta queen?

“I… i… I am honored, Zandere,” she said, blinked slowly. She was the beta queen. And that was something that was quite difficult for her to accept.

Zandere took a step towards her as she gasped, smiling brightly at her...with all the love his heart could hold. Surely, many thoughts were running through her head, for it was quite an announcement. But the choice had been no clearer than day to him. Of course, Harmony was a kind fae and beautiful, but honestly, that was the only thing she had going for her. Charasma was not only beautiful, but she was intelligent and had such skills that would make the king of all jealous.

"So do you accept my choosing you, Charasma?" he asked, reaching his warm nose out to nuzzle her softly on the shoulder. After a moment, he looked back to Harmony, wondering how his decision had affected her. Zandere moved over to her, apologizing with his golden orbs and nuzzling her shoulder softly. He did not want her to hurt.

Oh, the perfect swan-like fae tossed her ivory locks, words of acceptance prepared on her lips as he spoke, announcing the name of the lead mare.

What she wasn't prepared for, was the other mare's name leaving his handsome lips and stomped her hoof in sheer suprise, not seeming to understand why it wasn't her that was chosen.

At Zandere's nuzzling of her shoulder, she appeared to finally come back to the time and snapped at him slightly, turning on her hoof and trotting off into the shade of the trees without a word.

Why hadn't be chosen her!

Great happiness overwhelmed the bright young stag quickly as he nuzzled his new queen's cheek lovingly. She had accepted Zandere for who he was, and they had been able to put apart their families' differences and love each other as if nothing had happened at all. United, they would stand against the treat of evil treading upon their terrain and fight until the war was fought and all tensions had subsided. Perhaps, there would be even one day where all the world could live with one another, in harmony.

This happiness was extremely short lived, though, because his heart sank as the gorgeous fae, Harmony began to move off in her own direction. Quickly, he followed her to the shade of the trees. Why was she doing this? Did she not know that he loved her so? "Harmony, my dear.....you must listen to me. I love you very much," he said quietly, touching his nose to her shoulder.

Charasma sighed as the other moved off. Really, there was nothing here to be so... aloof about. Sure she had not been chosen, but still, this sort of behaviour was something she would have expected in someone else, not her only other freind in this land of all things. She sighed, watching with soft eyes.

Before she too vanished, knowing that when he was ready, Zandere would find her in one of their favourite parts of the land, atop one of the tallest sand dunes. She trotted in that direction, finding it, before falling neatly onto her knees and rolling, not caring that her mane vanished as the flames were vanquished by the sand as she rolled.

This was her home.

She shook her lovely neck out, long mane flying in all directions as she shifted pointedly away from him. But her dainty ears remained pricked, clearly listening to his soft words, shivering slightly at his gentle touch.

"But I am the most beautiful!" she declared vainly with a rustle of her wings "do you not want beautiful heirs? With wings?"

She stomped her hoof firmly as if to punctuate her sentence with yet another toss of her long, silken mane.
"I should be queen!"

Zandere was quiet for a moment, as he he stood before her wondering what to say to her. His orbs were warm and pleading, so that one could tell how much he cared for her and that he truly wished for her to be his. Easily, he returned to her side and placed his muzzle upon her shoulder in sweetly. "Harmony," he said in a hushed tone, looking into her orbs lovingly.

Arcing his neck around to look her in the eyes, he knew that there would be no easy to tell her. She wasn't easy to please, and she certainly could not lead the beta herd like Charasma. "Harmony," he repeated. "You know I do love and care for you. You can see it in my eyes and how I treat you. The title of queen means nothing but a leadership role...it does not mean I love one mare more than another, you know," he said gently. "I do not choose my heir by queen or herd mare, I will choose my heir by the foal that is best qualified to lead the beta herd when I am gone. Beauty is another quality in its own," he added with a small smile.

He looked back to her, keeping his stance as she stomped her hoof in the sand. "Tell me how you are more qualified to lead than Charamsa. I know you are both beautiful, Harmony, but that is not only what I look for in a queen," he said, hoping she would understand him now.
