Balto was born from a male Siberian Husky and a purebred white wolf Aniu. He shares characteristics of both of them, and grew up in the wilderness until a wolf named Boris found him when he was young and took him in. His parents were not around often as his father was a sled-dog and his mother was spirit-like. Boris and him went to Nome, Alaska, which was the closest town for miles other than Anchorage.

Until Balto was one year old, he stayed in a sunken ship on the outskirts. After that he ventured into the city, having life skills but did not know the ropes of the small town. From afar, he admired the town's beauty, a red husky named Jenna. She was beautiful on the inside and outside, and as he was going to see the race he accidentally ran into her, touching his nose to hers. Embarrassed, he walked away, thinking he had no chance with her because of Steele and his ridicule. Every day it was "wolf-dog" and "half-blood", and Balto was getting fed up with it.

One day, a diphtheria outbreak started in the small town, and there was no medicine left. Sick and dying children were left without medicine, and there was no form of transportation other than sled dogs in Nome. It just so happened that Jenna's owner, Rosie, a small child fell ill with the sickness. There was a race around town held to see which dogs would run to get the medicine. Balto won this race that he wasn't even entered in, but when the human came close, Steele stepped on his foot so he growled in pain and the humans could not trust him. Steele was chosen as the lead dog of his team, even though he was not as fast as Balto. Balto goes to the outside of the hospital that night to see Jenna, who is keeping diligent watch over Rosie from afar.

Balto shows her a small demonstration of Northern lights under the hospital with bottles, and she starts to like him there. He told her he was leaving to go get the medicine himself after the team had been gone for several weeks. They were lost in the wilderness. Jenna, Boris, Luk, and Muk decide to come with them. Early into the trip, they encounter a massive bear, who Balto wards off. Jenna is injured though and Boris, Luk, and Muk take her home, leaving Balto alone. Jenna gives him her bandanna though.

To find his way, Balto marks his trail and finally comes to where Steele and the team are lost. The sled driver is knocked out, maybe dead, and Steele fights Balto, trying to kill him so he could have the honor of taking the team home. Balto gets knocked out but survives and successfully knocks Steele off the edge of a cliff, though he survives and goes back to Nome. Steele marked ALL the trees with his claws so Balto would get lost later on. And he did, he was going in circles for miles.

Soon though, one of the other dogs sneezes and they are almost run down by an avalanche which they outrun by going in a cave. Upon coming out, they continue their journey home with the medicine. Once they arrive, the medicine is administered to the children and everyone survives. Balto and Jenna fall in love.

They later have 6 pups, one of which was in the second movie, Aleu. She didn't look like the other puppies and no human would take her. She ran away from home after turning one year old and journeyed to the wilderness where she encountered various creatures. Her father chased after her and encountered them as well. Soon they came to a wolf pack that was nearly starving because the caribou had passed on the ice. Niju didn't want to leave the land but Nava knew they had to, as he was the alpha.

Nava told Balto he was destined to lead the pack to safer places, but it was really Aleu's destiny. A massive fight breaks out in the pack and Aleu finds her new place leading the pack and not staying with Balto or anyone. She belongs to the wild.

Later that year, planes came to Nome and Kodiak, Balto's son, is the lead of a mail sled team and is a very fast and good leader. When the plane tries to take over the mail in Nome, Kodi and Balto race to get the mail against the plane with his team. He successfully picks it up but the plane is far ahead. When he thinks he has lost the race, the plane crashes and they rescue the mail man that drove the small plane. Kodi is very much Balto's hero.

After Nome becomes inhabitable, Balto and all the dogs go to where Balto last saw Aleu at the ice crossing where the Caribou had gone. They cross the river and its current and arrive in a different land called Freedom's Palace. It just so happened that Steel and Niju followed them, so that means that there will be problems in the future...

Denali was born in Nome, Alaska and is the son of Balto and Jenna. He is a red husky looking wolf cross so he isn't targeted in Nome for looking like a wolf and was adopted by humans at eight weeks old. As a young dog, he worked strenuously as a importer dog, which is a dog on a team where tools are imported and exported from Nome. It takes a lot of muscle, and despite how fast he was, he couldn't pull the heavy weights.

After Nome became inhabitable, he followed his father straight out of town, knowing that he would be well protected in a large pack.

As a pup, Aleu felt bad about herself cause even though she was mostly husky, she looked 100% wolf and was a wolf at heart and in strength. Her mother and father told themselves a human would adopt her as they had the other pups. Never did they adopt Aleu though and she grew at Balto's ship to a rather large female. She was even mistaken by hunters as a pure wolf and shot at. If it wasn't for Balto, she would have died several times.

To her father, she is very close but as a younger wolf she would always get mad at him, especially when he called her his little girl. After finding out she was part wolf, she ran away and went into the wilderness. Her father followed her, and there she encountered many creatures. The bear she saw was inner-knowing and she was rescued by her father after they both had to jump off a cliff to save themselves from it. She came across Muru, a small field mouse who told her that she didn't know who she really was and that she had to go on a quest to find her true destiny.

She finally ended up in a land where wolves ran freely but were starving because the caribou had crossed the water. Nava was the leader of the pack and told them that they needed to leave the land to go to better feeding grounds. He knew that the caribou had left for good. He recognized in himself that he was too old to make the journey at this time and that it was Aleu that was meant to take the role of alpha.

Niju had wanted to be the leader with his three three comrades: Yak, Sumac, and Nuk. It was not meant to be because even when they wanted the ways of old, Aleu knew things needed to change. Aleu found her place with the pack and crossed the water to FP, never thinking she would see her family again. But she did, soon after Nome became inhabitable.

Aniu was petrified as a two year old female spirit who takes care of her young. Before she was immortalized, she had a litter of two pups and named the Adri and Balto, unknowing of the fame that the family would one day achieve. There were more important things to do than raise pups, but it wasn't that she had a choice not to bring them up. One day, she could see them no more nor hear them anymore. They were gone.

Not until a year later did she see her son struggling for life as he was making his journey. He didn't take pride in the heritage of the wolf, so she came close to him to sniff him, wondering if he remembered her. Perhaps, he did for he looked at her in a special way. Placing his paw print in hers, matching them together he got up and howled with her.

The next time they saw each other was when Aleu found her destiny, and they conversed for a moment. She told him she was his mother, and then disappeared.

Dusty was on the same sled team as Kodi was and they became good friends, laughing and joking around. Together, with Kirby and Ralph they did the mail deliveries every day to Nome and gave it to the people. With the arrival of a small plane driver though, came the possibility that they would lose their job as sled dogs. Kodi and her both worked very hard at it and it was decided to run a relay against the plane. It was very difficult for Dusty, but with Kodi and Balto at the lead, she felt like she had wings. They finally got to the mail but saw the plane spiral down several miles away.

Kodi and Balto led her to the scene, where the plane driver had crashed and was unconscious. They brought the plane driver back as well as all the mail to Nome, and the people found that the plane was unreliable. Instead, they continued to use the dogs to transport mail.

During that time, Dusty came to care for Kodi, but she never let on to him. They all may their voyage to FP after that, when Nome became inhabitable, and now, she's trying to function in the wild.

Nuk grew up in the pack under Nava's rule, and he always hated him. Along with some other misfit young wolves named Niju, Yak, and Sumac, he became very brutish and determined to help Niju take over the pack someday. When Nava suggested that they leave the land which they grew up in, he blatantly refused along with Niju. They would have rather stolen from other wolves than give up their land. They lived there many months as Nava weakened, as if he was waiting for something.

And she came. The prissy bitch's name was Aleu, and Nuk hated her from the moment he laid eyes on her. From the moment they first arrived, he tried to push Aleu off the side of a rock into the ocean. He followed Niju's orders to try to dispose of the two Balto and Aleu, but he couldn't. Sumac was too stupid to help him! Anyways, Aleu decided to leave the land, and he wouldn't have gone - except that there was Caribou on the other side! Nuk was a hungry boy and couldn't refuse eating some meant - and surely, they were there the moment they arrived, along with much other plentiful food.

Soon after Niju arrived, though, he turned on Aleu and followed Niju. In Aonar, they are fighting Balto's rather large pack for dominance, but they may have to join Steele, who they hate, just for a while.

Skye lived across the street from Kaltag's owner's house and would always play with Kaltag as a pup. She has had a long time crush on him but hasn't been able to tell him how she feels. She was always good friends with Jenna, so she grew apart from Kaltag when he joined Steele's side.

When Nome became inhabitable, she decided she would follow Kaltag anywhere he would go, even it it meant being in Steele's pack. So she joined Steele's pack reluctantly and has called it home to her. She fights for the bad guys even though its wrong, and she still loves Kaltag. She knows Jenna must be hating her now though.

Grew up in Nome under a mix-breeder who wanted to promote small breeds over the huskies in Nome. Dixie became quick friends with Jenna and Sylvie, tending to gossip among the group since they were but puppies. Immediately, she became over-concerned with her looks and with material possessions. Though very sweet, none of the larger dogs ever took interest in her and she never got a mate. Always, she followed the beautiful Jenna around town, hoping to catch the eye of some kind male. That day never came though.

Before Jenna met Balto, Dixie always thought he was a half-blood and disgusting. She was always a little jealous of all the attention that her best friend got all the time, wishing that someone would notice her for who she was. Though very pretty, she knew she could never match up to a real blood husky dog like Jenna always could. Why did Jenna choose a half-blood when she could have had a pure blood?

After Jenna, Steele, and Balto left, Dixie had nothing left in Nome. She had to follow or die in the wilderness. She is not a very good fighter at all and would rather stay in the protection of Balto's pack.

Nikki was born in a shop from a pregnant Malamute who was bred to a pure bred ex-sled racer. His sire won several tournaments as lead dog and he expected to be the lead dog instead of Steele, but he turned out to be one of the wheel dogs. Always, he resented that fact but accepted that he was simply the slowest dog on the fastest team in Nome, but he had the brute strength and some speed to pull a sled effectively. He is a large dog, wider than Steele and just as tall.

He went with Steele when he fled Nome into the wilderness, but he, Steele, Star, and Kaltag don't know a thing about the wild. They aren't experienced like Balto, who can hunt alongside of some other dogs and wolves to get food.
