Masquerade was born in Exile's herd, under the rule of the brutal Temia and Candra. They always used to beat her up because of her differing personality, and her mother always saw her as a failure. Her father always kept her hidden from the outside world. One day, though she escaped and traveled to the land of Exile's arch nemesis, Therthis.

Therthis welcomed her with open arms and she was introduced to all the herd mares and their foals. She quickly made friends with a colt named Oskamani, and they would often play games like 'tag' to pass the day away. When she got older, she noticed that she missed those horses and those old friends that she had held so dear.

One day, when she was living at Red Sun, she was attacked by Frenzy and forced, giving birth to her daughter Kaya at two years old. Kaya is now grown up and is the first dire unicorn.
