The time has come

She knew the time had come for their son or daughter to be born. her body was fat with the foal to be born and now she rarely left the herd, not wanting to get into trouble, seeing as her foal was likely bigger than her again. Not that she was worried, she knew that Ashton would help her again this time.

Only this time, she was going to New Life.

"Ashton?" she called.

The great head twisted, nose twisting in the direction the soft lyrics had come. He knew it was Cinnamon, his aging fae. He worried for her health, knowing soon she would to leave this earth. But he knew he would quickly follow suit. She wasn't that much older then him.
But this wasn't why he worried for her, but for the large foal she carried. He knew it had been a bad idea, and he saw just how it tolled on her daily health.
A soft sigh escaped him, hooves quickly trotting in her direction. He hoped everything was okay.

Upon reaching the small fae's side, his nose dropped and nuzzled her cheek and then her rounded belly.
"My love," he murmured, pausing and waiting for her to speak.

The elderly fae, older than him by a few years, looked up as he came towards her. She knew that he was aware that she was deteriorating. “It's time, my love.” She felt the foal kicking at her inside. It was certainly time for her to have the youngster.

He was the only one though that mattered to her at the moment though. “I have to head to New Life.” She knew now though, that this would be the last time she saw him... in this lifetime at least. One day, she knew they would find each other again.

The nose dropped instantly, knowing what she meant. This was the end. She would not return, he knew that had been the case when she had wanted his foal. They both knew time was running out.
"My love," he whispered, the words filled with all the emotions he felt towards the little mare. She had been with him for a while, and he loved her just as dearly as he loved his queen and son.

Hesitating for a moment, and worried deeply, he came to a quick choice.
"I shall come, though wait upon the border...for not even I can enter the mare's ground," he told her softly, nuzzling her once more.

"I understand," she replied. She knew that when she entered the grounds, she would not be walking back to him. Their foal though would be both of them, she was sure. There was no way it could be anything different to them. It would be all he had left of her, she knew but it was going to be woth it. She hoped that the foal would have her colour, and his temper. That would be the best thing in the world.

Or her temper and his colour, either would be nice.

"We should get started."

The great king nodded his head slightly, nudging her forth with his light nose as they began their trip towards the breeding grounds. His heart was heavy, knowing this would be there last trip together.
