Chasing the Sun [OPEN] 054e2b185fc29c4da1876e9db5a01f1f

Colours swirled around her.

A mixture of dark blues, light blues, greens, purples, yellows - any colour imaginable! The Hippocampus tossed her head in delight, black mane floating in a wild halo about her head, thrown about carelessly by the water. The silky strands were caught, whirled around by eddies that seemed to leap and caress her pelt playfully. And she welcomed them, coasting along them like an old friend.

A school of fish swam past her, and Elanoor playfully lunged forward, teeth snapping shut with a fierce snick as they scrambled to get away. The mare huffed in amusement, bubbles streaming upward from her nostrils, towards the bright surface.

Today was the day! For a year and a day, Elanoor had swam, all the way from the freezing waters and lonely calls of the Atlantic, towards this sacred place she had heard of only in passing - of hush, reverent whispers that were carried by the wind towards her pricked harks.

Alaknanda River.

A place where she could find companionship. Love even, but she didn't believe she would be that lucky. Who, among all the land-bound horses that trod this earth, would ever want her? She, who could not move about freely on land. But still, Elanoor thought, with a brave, defiant tilting of her elegant head. If she did not try, she would never know.

Ever since her parents had passed on, she had longed for the companionship of others. She prayed she would get this here.

Her lungs burned.

With a few, powerful strokes from her tail, Elanoor broke through the surface of the water with a triumphant and exhilarated whoop, pinwheeling through the air before she landed back in the water with a splash.

The moment had come. For the first time in years, the mare swam tentatively towards land, skittishly maneuvering herself towards shallower waters. Then, amid much splashing and fumbling, the mare raised herself upon her front legs, moving herself forward clumsily to lie upon the grey, sun-warmed rock.

She raised her head up towards the sun, closing her eyes in bliss as the sun's rays beat upon her cool, damp body.

Midnight Sun

I moved smoothly through Alaknanda's waters, my powerful legs propelling me towards the shore. As I came out in the shallows though, I stopped, seeing a dark form on the shore to my left, the glare of the sun making it hard for me to discern what, exactly, it was. My curiosity aroused, I moved towards the oddity, my dark hooves splashing through the cool waters carefully as I tried not to make too much noise, in case the object of my curiosity happened to be some strange creature whom I might startle.

As I came closer, and the shade of the willows surrounding the outer edges of the isle provided some protection from the sun, I saw that the object was what appeared to be a strange cross between a horse and a fish, lying calmly on the shore.

Unable to leave it at that, I walked closer to the strange creature, the fine shaping of its head and body being the only hint as to its gender. I guessed that whatever it was, it was female, although I couldn't be sure.

Stopping just a few feet away from the creature, I bowed my head to her, the fringe of my mane just touching the clear surface of the shallow water. "Greetings," I said clearly, looking at the stranger. "Pardon me if I seem rude, but I've never before seen one such as you. What, pray, tell me, is your kind known as?" I asked, my voice as gentle as possible. I didn't want to frighten her, nor, more importantly perhaps, risk offending this beautiful fae, no matter what her kind was.

Chasing the Sun [OPEN] Empty

Elanoor stretched her neck, head tilted towards the warm sun as the gentle rays beat down upon her, warming her up. Her harks were pricked, tensly tracking the sounds around her as she listened to the soft lapping, comforting sounds of the river next to her. It eased her mind greatly, that there was a body of water beside her - one that she would be able to slip into and no one would ever be able to catch her.

Her bright purple eyes scanned the land around her, wide and round with curiosity. How different it was! How strange all the land animals and plants looked compared to their oceanic counterparts!

Elanoor bent her head down, sniffing curiously at the grass beneath her, eyes widening in delighted amazement as the fresh, green smell permeated her scent glands.

Just a heartbeat later, the grey female's ears snapped backward as she heard the sound of splashing water. Was someone coming? Through the water? Was he cutting off her only means of escape?

Suddenly panicked, Elanoor swung around, pushing herself up on her forelegs, while her powerful tail supported the rest of her body weight. Taking a few, awkward hops to turn around, she stopped, stunned at the sight of the large stallion, who was almost twice her size? Her purple orbs widened almost dramatically, as she took on the small tongues of flames and sparks illuminating his black pelt.

So shocked was she, that she stood frozen, as though she had turned into a block of ice, that cracked only when the stallion standing near her had started to speak.

"G-greetings," she returned hesitantly, tongue tripping slightly over the strange vowels that her parents had forced her to learn when she was young. Frowning at the slightly stilted sound, she focused more on speaking, sighing in relief as the words flowed slightly more easily.

"I'm not surprised," she remarked. "There are so few of us left! I'm a Hippocampus - half fish, half horse," she laughed, flashing a joking smile at the large stallion. "And there's no need to be so shy," Elanoor added dryly. "I'm not some shrinking violet - was that right? Did I use that expression correctly?" she burst out, eyes shining in glee even as she felt her nervousness fading in the light of company.

"Oh, and you! You're half fire, half horse? Then we're like, distant cousins or something?" she asked eagerly, before a mortified expression plastered itself to her face. "Oh, I'm sorry," she murmured, lowering her voice. "Am I being too..." she trailed off awkwardly, a sheepish smile growing.

"Sorry."

(OOC: Sorry I took so long >< I was hospitalised again and almost went for surgery :/)

Wings of velvet carried him along the rivers twists and turns, at a speed few dared the twists and turns in. Suddenly, he stopped, hovering, at a rather odd sight below. Half horse.... half dolphin perhaps? Confused, Spyro dove down to land gracefully nearby.

"Greetings."

He nodded to Midnight Sun, knowing the older stag vaguely. He stood there, listening for a few moments for a break in the conversation. He was an alicorn.

I smiled at her, my dark eyes shining brilliantly as she spoke. "Yes, you don't seem to be a shrinking violet," I said, laughing slightly as she continued, beginning to ramble before she cut herself short.

"Don't worry, everyone comes here to meet others. How can they do it if they don't talk?" I asked her, nodding my head slightly. "I'm part hellion. We're more horses of fire, than half and half, though." She's interesting, I thought, my smile fading into more of a musing twitch of my lips.

Another visitor approached though, Spyro. Seeing him, I nodded in return to his call of hello, before returning my attention to the strange fae. Thinking for a moment, I bent me knees, smoothly lying down in front of her, so that if she chose to, she might relax and not crane her head. "I'm Midnight Sun, I live near the coast of the sea." I said to her.
