PostSubject: Will I ever see Hope again? [Ashley, Saphira]   Fri Jan 07 2011, 20:47

She was lonely, she knew as she moved through the woods. She'd left Moonlight, and the others behind in Red Sun, now that her father had met his match against his brother. She missed the company of her half sister, Hope, though, and she wondered whether she would ever see her again.
It was a hard life she had at the moment. Things were not looking up as she headed through the woods. The almost white palomino mare had been searching for days for her closest friend and doing nothing else. She was recovering from being lame and there were a few cuts and things on her pelt.
Men had caught her for the last two years and she was not as well known in the wild now that she was back again. She'd escaped with her life, but she had been badly treated by them, they only wanted to break her so she would be a rodeo horse. The nylon black head collar she'd had from those dark days was still on her head, she didn't know how to get it off.
"Hope!" she called. "Where are you?"

HOPE

The chestnut mare with flaming tresses stepped lightly through the lush woods, granite hooves scissoring against the springy moss underfoot. The light of the flames on her body flickered, casting eerie shadows on the trunks of the trees and plants. The last rays of the dying sun filtered through the gently waving leaves, staining the white markings on her pelt red and orange.

There was something different about her, though. Any horse who knew her would be able to see it at once. The small, terrified, awkward filly was no more, lost in the past, not to be found again easily. In place of her stood a fully grown mare, proud and graceful, her movements seemingly effortless, like a dancer dancing. Every movement seemed to be choreographed to perfection.

Hope had left her dam and her new mate, venturing forth into the unknown by herself. Celeste had been somewhat… Distracted as of late. Not that Hope could blame her. Celeste did deserve to have some happiness in her life. Now, she figured it was time for her own. Hope had grown restless, wandering throughout many lands, turning her gaze inward to untangle the ugly, frayed knots of her life. A journey of self-discovery, if you will. Now, she knew what she wanted.

It had brought her here, to the river to seek out one of the opposite gender. There seemed to be no one here, though. The lands were quiet, almost eerie, but the serene nature of the woods counteracted it, so that it was almost impossible for her to feel scared. An ear suddenly flicked, as the young mare arched her neck, seeking the direction that the voice had called.

Hope…

Was it a memory? Was it her own imagination? Surely her long-lost sister could not be here, could she? She had disappeared some time ago, and no matter how hard Hope had searched for her, she could never find her.

Snorting in excitement and hope, the mare gracefully propelled herself onward, tresses brushing softly against various plants, leaving scorch marks before they healed quickly under her guiding influence. Finally, in the distance, she saw her sister. Neighing with joy, as sprung out of the forest as the sun hit her pelt, turning her to a living statue of gold. Radiant in her beauty and joy, she was. Her sister had come home.

“Freiheit! You’re back!” she cried out, happiness and joy bubbling in her heart, lifting the great weight that had seemed to drag her down. Joyful eyes turned dismayed as she surveyed er sister and the head collar on her. “What happened to you?” she exclaimed, distraught as she quickly set to work with her teeth, biting at the collar that kept her sister’s head imprisoned.

She sighed as she stood there, waiting for the answer to come to her on the wind. She'd not seen Hope since she was a yearling, for that was when she had been caught by the men. Now, she was completely grown, almost white in body and yet not white, but a very pale gold. Her mane and tail now sparkled with the tiny icy facets that it was made with and she knew, she was home at last. Home and ready for the life she had been denied for a past two years of her life.

Then the answer came, the sound of hooves brushing the dirt somewhere around her. Her head moved as she listened, ears pricked, figuring out who was coming. It was a mare, about the same age, and when she did appear, Friehiet neighed in surprise. Oh how her younger half sister had grown in the time that past while she was the humans captive. So much seemed to have changed and she knew all the news that had come to pass, except what her dearest sister had been up to.

“Hope,” she neighed in delight. “Haven't you grown.” Friehiet knew that her own body was well rounded, one of the men had forced her to carry his stallion's foal. She would likely not see the young one born alive, she was too young for such a thing to be forced upon her. “Oh so much has happened while the humans had me. Yes, humans are the reason for my sudden vanishing. They caught me once, in the same lands my mother fled from Blade to, where Therthis runs now, wherever that is. Though I know also that Moonslight has retaken her place as queen of Misty Mountains. The animals of the bush bring such news to me.”

She smiled though as she finally felt free of the head collar. “Thank you. Though I fear men will come for me again, when they find out that I am gone. One of the others freed me though from my stall, they knew I was not one for the men to have. You would not believe how much they have tortured me, and yet, I still remain unbroken by them. Once one slipped on a pile of ice I created myself. It was winter though, so he thought the ice must have been hidden under the dirt of the stall I was in. What my luck. But tell me, what have you been up to? How's Celeste and all the others?”

He smiled gently to himself as he entered the Alaknanda River, a place where he'd find mares. Those sweet beautiful creatures, yep that was exactly what he was talking about. They seemed nice enough to him at least and well Innocent. Way to innocent for some where stallions treated them badly. No they did not deserved to be torture which is why he'd planned on building a sanctuary on his land for mares, so they could feel safe and secure. Something he had dreamed of since that one fateful day, when he watched his father kill a mare. The mare had done Nothing wrong but be a mare. It hadn't been fair the mare, had been nice, and even Beautiful. He had thought it was father's favorite mare, Guess not. He never had looked at his father as Cruel Until then when he pulled that stunt. Never had he been more than Disgusted with his father for that. He didn't think he couldn't of forgave him after that stunt. No Of course not, his father had been a fool to kill that Gorgeous Innocent mare, now he was haunted by it.

Poor Mares they couldn't even trust his father, not even Jeromo. He was determined to be nothing like his father, treat mares like Broodmares. To him it was just plain wrong and it even wasn't fair to the mares. He couldn't believe that he even had been his Father. No father should be like that, Cruel, It was just plain evil really. He knew he could do better than his Father though, way better in fact. His father might even become jealous of him, totally could happen he thought snickering. His father had even been a idiot, He was way better than him. He'd never give up to prove that he wasn't like the rest, Heartless. No definitely not that if his life depended on it, not that it did though. He was lonely, Ready to start a family, something he had always dreamed of. It was something he actually considered a life worth living, maybe even better than that even. His life would have been complete, another goal in life, have life feel complete. He surely didn't want any loneliness.

That's when he noticed the scent of a mare, He bet she was pretty. She was just like a goddess he thought smiling, she had to be his. He could not force her of course, he could ask her though. That's when another mare appeared, two mares to ask, and talk to. He walked up to them loudly, tossing his head.
"Greetings Ladies, My Name is Jeromo and yours would be?"

She snorted as another came out of the bush. A stallion by the look of him. For a moment she was a little frightened, but then she managed to calm herself, knowing that this fear was completely irrational at the moment. Things were meant to be getting better, so why should she think to fear him?

“Friehiet, I am called,” she said. “Freedom.”

She smiled though as she looked upon him. "it's nice to meet you."

He looked at the mare, surprised when she seemed to tense up. Did he do something wrong? He didn't think he did surely he hadn't done anything. Jeromo would never do anything to hurt or scare a mare in his life. He was only out to offer protection and comfort. it was the only thing he knew to give a mare. He felt like crying thinking that he had done something wrong to upset this mare. It wasn't like he meant to, somehow he made frightened. Of course he was really just jumping to conclusion about things.

" Did I do something to Frighten you, If I did I really didn't mean to." Maybe she hated stallions he thought, one of those who escape from their captors. He sure hoped not, he was probably just jumping to conclusions. He did that quite often these days, almost every day it seemed to happen. Focus on the mare he told himself not wanting to look like he was out in space. He did that often too, get distracted a lot by his thoughts. As stupid as they were it was a surprise he even remembered almost all of them. " That's a nice name."

She chuckeld at his words. "I just wasn't expecting more company thats all. I was born out here, but for the past two years, I've been tortued by men, and carry a foal due to all of that. they never tried to control me from on my back, they just had stallions covering me each year. My foal's from the last two were still born." She sighed. She knew that this one would be the same somehow.

She smiled though. "Let's just say that my whole life has not been easy, but the same could be said for Hope here. We're half sisters, same abusive father, who chose to exile me as soon as he met me as a foal, and who seperated Hope from her motehr as well, giving her to his betta's herd."

She sighed. "Things have not been easy at all."

Hope’s chocolate eyes sparkled with affection and delight as she surveyed her sister. She, too, had grown to become quite a beauty. The mare tugged on Freiheit’s silky mane, nickering softly as she brushed one of the cuts gently with her muzzle. Willing the earth to her, she closed her eyes as its green energy suffused her entire being, wrapping her in its magical core of power. Reaching out once more, Hope touched her muzzle to one of them tentatively, watching with glee as the earth’s energy touched it and sealed it seamlessly.

Tossing her flaming tresses, she looked at Freiheit, grinning impishly. “Just one of the skills I have learnt.”

The sound of hoofbeats slowly drawing nearer caught her attention, and she whirled around, head held high as she eyed the approaching stallion warily. Shifting her weight, she cast a quick glance at her sister, moving forward somewhat protectively as he drew even nearer.

However, it soon appeared that her sister was not as afraid. Drawing away slightly, she watched the two interact, smiling fondly at Freiheit as she took in the captured stallion. They would make a good match, she knew.

Bowing her head elegantly to him, tresses waving to one side, Hope said with her musical lyrics, “Welcome. It is a pleasure to meet you.” As her sister told her tale, Hope’s heart broke for her, as she moved closer, giving her comfort from her presence.

"You're one of the earth?" Friehiet was amazed by that. "Since when and who taught you?" she was quite surprised really. Things had been hard for her, so nothing was unexpectable at the moment. Things would get better now that she was back and well.

"At least things are safer here, though I know there has been trouble while I have been gone. In a way I wish I had been here to see Blade fall, but no, the men had to keep me for far too long for me to get the chance to laugh at him." It was clear she hated the one who was supposedly her father.

He was horrified by her tale, it was to horrible to even listen to. She hadn't deserved what had been done to her, he could only hope life would get better for her. He never would wish that upon anyone ever and this mare surely did not deserve it. He of course was dumbfounded by himself for falling in love with her, when he hardly even knew her at all. Of course if she choose to go with him she would get the things she truly deserved. He watched her curious what she would say next.

" That's horrible for what you've been through I hope life gets better for you I truly do." He looked to the other mare, smiling he wondered what he name was. " Ma'am what would your name be?" He smiled at her wondering why she seemed to be so protective over her sister. Well he thought they were sisters at least, they looked it. He noticed that she was beautiful as well. It would be nice to have her in his herd as well, only if she wanted to of course.

Hope’s eyes, still soft, gazed at her sister fondly, twitching her ears in amusement. “I am. It was after the great battle… When I went to watch our father be put to death. Sundawn, queen of Thunder Meadows taught be how to shape the earth to my will.” The shimmering cream-coloured swirls on her pelt, white against dark brown, shimmered and shifted slightly as she thought about Blade.

“It’s too bad,” Hope said quietly, agreeing with Freiheit’s words. “But I’ve gotten over it now. Hate never does anyone any good.” Hearing the stallion speak to her, Hope turned to face him, a mischievous smile present on her maw.

“Hope,” she answered softly, locking gazes with the stallion. “Hope is my name and my nature.”

“I’m home now and for me that’s all that matters.” She chuckled. “My sire may not be liked in these lands, but I know there are other things that count more than who your parents are and what you look like. She looked at Hope, “Somehow I do not think father is dead, but far from it.”
It was as if she knew the terrible thing that had happened. “I may not have been here all the time, but I know something different happened to that.”
She sighed. Theyw ere better off without him in their lives though. He had never wanted them.

Jeromo smiled politely as he listened for her name, quite interested what it would be in fact. Hope, it was perfect in a way for her, it seemed of matched her. He hoped that she good things did happen to her, and maybe that name would bring her good luck. He didn't want her to suffer, no definitely not. " I'd wish he'd be dead, he sounds a lot like my father in ways."
He turned his head towards Hope smiling, also amazed by her beauty. " Hope, that's a very nice name, It seems to match you in a way."
He smiled politely, He had a feeling something bad was going on. It wasn't horrible though it surely couldn't be that bad Could it? " Ladies would you do the honor in Joining my Herd?"
He bowed his head a little bit like a gentlemen.

She smiled at him. He seemed nice at at least. Much like the ones who had taken her in, Therthis had let her and Moonslight into his herd for what time was needed.
"You seem to remind me of the one who raised me, instead of Blade. Therthis, of Red Sun." She smiled. "I think I will join you, Jeromo."
It seemed that this was where she was meant to be. She liked this horse, and there was no stopping her once she had decided.

Hope smiled wryly at the stallion as he turned towards her once more. "Thank you for the compliment," she said quietly, looking at her sister with a raised eyebrow as her flames danced merrily, seemingly echoing her inner amusement.

When the stallion asked, Hope’s chocolate eyes widened a little with surprise, then even more as her sister readily agreed. Turning back to him a little apologetically, she said softly but firmly, “I’m sorry, Jeromo, but I’ll consider it. I’d prefer to get to know you a little better first. But,” here, she hesitated a little. “Would you mind if I came with you to your land? I can get to know you better this way, and I wish to catch up with my sister a little longer.”

She chuckled at her sister's reaction to how she answered his question. "All I want is a safe home, Hope," she said softly. "If Jeromo can give me that, well that I will stay with him. Though if I'm not happy, I will leave."

He didn't seem the type to stop anyone from doing what they wanted. She hoped though that she was right. They had had enough of that sort of horse from their father. Not that he was much of one. There were rumours though that he had changed.
