Servant of the Devil ((open)) Twilight_Unicorn_by_Manwathiell

She moved quietly into the woods. Her master had sent her here to find someone else to spend her free time with. She did not know what freedom was. That made things a little hard for her. The pretty mare moved along, knowing she had no true freedom.

Zilphaf gave a soft neigh, but it was a haunted sound, one filled with despair and unease. Unease about being away from her master. Around him, despte the constant anger being taken out on her, she had always felt safe around him.

He had been grazing on the hill when he had first heard that cry. That desperate, haunting, lonesome call that reached right past his rib cage, past the barriers of his heart, and right into the core of his soul.

It was the call that no one could ignore, unless they were heartless bastards - which, even though many thought he was, he was not. The golden stallion had simply never bothered to correct the assumptions that others had chosen to spout about him. He didn't care about what he they thought - and why should he? Mortal creatures were all the same, selfish and thinking only of the present, instead of the future.

This time, however, it was different. He could feel it.

Demitri tossed his mane, golden pelt gleaming brightly under the sun as he cantered forward at a easy pace, stopping a little here and there to determine where, exactly, the sound had come from. He veered off the well-beaten path in the woods, treading warily deeper.

It was dark, and in the distance, he saw a pale silhouette in the darkness of the forest. Demitri tossed his head, walking carefully closer, his hormones, for once, under control.

"Greetings, m'lady," he murmured soothingly in his regular charming drawl. His eyes, though, were soft and inquisitive as he gazed at her.

"'Tis late in the night. What is one as beautiful as you doing here?"

He couldn't help it. After years, the flirting was a part of him.

She snorted as she heard someone else coming towards her. Slightly afraid she was, for she knew it was not her master who was coming towards her. She blinked though at the tall golden stallion that appeared, but almost immediately lowered her head to the ground, as he stopped and spoke to her.

She chose her words with extreme caution. No one would be happy with her, especially not one as handsome as this golden one was. “Seeking one who would have me, my lord,” she replied, eyes downcast on the grass under her muzzle.

Never once did she dare to look up at him, she was too well trained not to do such a thing. Oh her master would beat her if she dared. She was a mare, and therefore, she was inferior to him.

He is the one for you, Ziphaf, Satan’s words sounded in her head. She could hear his approval of the horse before her.

Demitri was captivated the moment he had set his amber-hued orbs upon the fae. She was enchanting, from her dappled grey pelt, to that beautiful, luminous horn spiraling from her head. Her dainty features only seemed to accentuate her vulnerability and desperate sadness and uncertainty.

Demitri could not resist its combination.

His eyes widened with surprise at her candid words, before swiftly dipping his own head and nudging hers up gently, so that they were once more at eye-level.

"Your eyes are far too lovely to be hidden from the world, m'dear," Demitri chuckled warmly, instinctively flashing her a heart-stopping smile, that was, this time, meant to do nothing else other than reassure her.

Demitri's eyes were unconsciously drawn to her slim form once more. Horses such as he, who had a weakness for flesh, could hardly bear to part his eyes from the lovely vision in front of him.

"May I know you name, m'lady?" he asked gently, tossing his mane once more. "I am Demitri. It is a pleasure, indeed, to meet you here."

As soon as he stopped touching her hide, her head went back down. She was too used to others snapping at her if she dared to look at them. Therefore, she did not do so anymore, despite knowing that it seemed that some were not that way inclined.

She was a little afraid to. Most only wanted to cause her trouble, or pain or some sort. “Z… Zilphaf,” she managed, not looking at him once more, at least not looking at him any higher than his hooves. She was not used to being around others and actually talking to them.

So long had it been since he had ventured from the bright groves of the forest and away from the shimmering lakes except for the occasional council meeting. Rather peaceful had it been except for perhaps the few stragglers that came upon the terrain in which he watched over and guarded with his life. It was not his, but he did not long to be is leader...he rather simply found happiness in serving the terrain and its long missing leader. Keeping the land's queen safe was of the first greatest importance, and the second was to make sure the land was not claimed by an unworthy kind until Jeromo returned.

Now, he thought that it would be time to seek those of his own. Once, there had been several mares in his herd, but one had died and the other had wandered off somewhere. It was a sad thing...to be lonely. Thyone knew that the queen surely was. Though, as she was awaiting the return of someone, there was no one to return to him.

It was unfortunate that he was a bit picky about those he liked to have in his herd, those that he found beautiful...they always had horns or wings. It just so happened as he was treading easily along the path to the river that he spotted a rarity. It was a dappled maiden with a spiraling purple horn protruding from her skull, and though she was already speaking to another stag, he thought that he would try his chances.

A little nervous but for the most part happy, he strode over to where she was. He noticed the dismal texture of her words as she spoke and the frightened nerves that she had. Her aura was deep and scared to death. In an instant, he wondered what she was going through and wished to help in any way he could.

"Hello," he said warmly. "My name is Thyone...I am of The Council," he said softly, bowing his skull to her neatly as wind swirled around him. "You seem shaky, I just wanted to make sure you were alright," he said easily with a warm smile. The last thing he wanted to do was make her uncomfortable.

Demitri 's eyes widened in sorrow, as the mare's head immediately drooped once more. The mare herself, even with her iridescent dappled pelt, looked strangely like a wilting flower. The life seemed to have been drained from her very self, and the mare, no longer having the will to grasp what she could of life, to live.

The golden stallion's eyes were soft and sad. All thoughts of playful flirting and coy comments faded like the stars in the morning. What had scarred her so terribly? Demitri was hardly one for commitment, for love - the one thing most strove for. But this mare - Zilphaf - he sensed that she was different.

Something in her soul cried out, begging to be saved.

As said before, Demitri was hardly heartless enough to ignore that call.

He smiled a little at the mare's quiet nature, a warm chuckle slipping through his mouth. No matter. He could fill in the blanks in the conversation all by himself, no questions asked.

"What a beautiful name," he said charmingly, flashing her a smile meant to set her at ease. "My own is Demitri, my dear. And for the record, I have never seen as exquisite a creature as you!"

He paused then, studying her with narrowed, thoughtful eyes.

"In fact, I have never seen you around before! Are you new here, Zilphaf?" he queried, a smile stretching across his muzzle. "I'd be glad to show you around, if you were."

He stopped then, as another unicorn entered the clearing. He bowed his head in recognition, smiling faintly at Thyone, before turning his attention once again to the mare.

She was a little shaky as another stallion approached her, and even from where her eyes were, so low to the ground, she knew who it was that came towards her at this moment. Thyone, a member of the unicorn council. One that Satan had cursed terribly about before he came here to Freedoms Palace personally. Now that there was another like her here though, she was able to find the strength to lift her head to a higher level, almost even to theirs.

“Greetings Thyone, I am Zilphaf,” she replied, looking at him for a few moments. She sighed, looking at both of them. “What interest have you both in me? Other than that I have never been here before?” This was something she would like to know, but of course if they had no interest in telling her, that mattered not to her.

Stallions were her betters, and therefore she would never force them to answer her.

Wind...

Subtle were his movements, kind orbs locked only on the beautiful vixen before him after giving the ruler beside him a respectful bow of the skull. Calm was his mind, like the rippling waters upon the shimmering lake of the forest he called home. Music of life flowed through him, quiet music that eased the burdens of life and the threats that life bestowed upon them. If only they could all hear the music of life and flee into peace from their woes and worries; from those acts of the past and those that may be committed in the future. If only they could live like the gods, reverting to more simple ways of life.

Warm winds swept around him, forming a peaceful breeze; not the dangerous ones that were used in battles of war but of friendship and good will. They were his kin like the family of unicorns, and though they were all alike and unrelated, there could be no bond more than friendship between those that shared the power of the world.

Thyone's heart was sweet towards her, and he smiled, as if hoping to raise her eyes from the ground. He did not want to just see her features; but her beautiful smile radiating towards him confidently. Surely, she had been through much, and he was certain that her turmoil had not yet ended. Perhaps, he could help her and free her from her desolation and anguish and show her a world where there was no pain.

"It is quite a pleasure to meet you, Zilphaf," he said, pausing as he bowed his large skull to her with a small smile. "I am lonely as the wind blows, and I seek another like me to help carry out the roles of the beta herd. A few came and went but none stayed," he said truthfully, knowing that there was no hiding from the past nor the future. "I am the stag of wind, and it is mine just as much as I am it," he said, and with a smile, wind swirled around them lightly.

"We are on equal ground, you know, Zilphaf. I will not hurt you or try to control you. You can look at me with the same eye level that I look at you. I know not what you have been through, but I know it must be tremendous. Do not worry, no more hurt shall burden your soul," he said, knowing that he would now do anything in his power to guide and save her from whatever was pursuing her. She was safe, even if she decided to go with the other stag, she had a savior already. Certainly, this kind sir could do something in battle as well if he was provoked, even though he lost to a younger stag in the battle for his land.

Demitri watched with no small amount of relief, as he watched the mare's head ascend from the dirt-speckled ground, to look at them both. Well, that was an improvement from the last time. At least the stag that had arrived was more useful than most of the others would have been.

Demitri blinked at her suddenly straight-forward question. Well, this broken shell of a mare certainly hid the flickering fire within. He thought that she would be quite a spitfire, once she had that inferiority complex taken away. And wouldn't that be fun?

"No particular interest," Demitri replied airily, viciously shoving the nameless voice that named him a liar, to the back of his mind. He had never ever confessed feelings for a single mare yet, and he didn't intend to start now. Especially with the stallion not a few feet away.

However, Demitri could not fully hide the flash of uncertainty in his eyes as he answered, and he was sure that the others could see it as well.

Shaking his mane, the golden stallion cleared his throat a little obnoxiously, shifting so that the silver moonlight dappled his pelt.

"I just heard your call. Call me crazy," Demitri laughed a little self-deprecatingly, "but I could have sworn I heard something and it pulled me here."

Well, Demitri had always been a little weird like that. And quite frankly, it was irritating at the best of times. Now, however, the stallion could not have been more grateful for his strange 'ability', that allowed him to feel the pull of others' souls.

Otherwise, how could he have met her?

Demitri smiled gently at the mare.

"You need not fear anything from me, miss," he chuckled warmly. "I'm just your ordinary run-of-the-mill stallion. Not like whoever it was that f-sorry, that um, made you so terrified of others."

He stopped, forcing his mouth closed. And then, after a brief, embarrassed silence, "I put my hoof in my mouth again, didn't I?"

Demitri had rarely had these kinds of conversations with others. The others mainly involved flattery, and then... other meaningless words.

Practice made perfect, didn't it?

What an odd expression that was. How could one put their hoof in their mouth honestly? It seemed a strange expression to have happen, or come out of one’s mouth. Though the horses here seemed different to the one who had the ultimate control over her.

All the words from Demetri frightened her though, and it was not long before her head lowered again. It was only the years of subservience that had made her this way. And it was not something that would go away easily.

The young mare sighed, looking at the ground. These two must think she was an idiot!

Demitri grinned lightly, as he watched the puzzled expression cross her delicate features. He rather thought that he should have been more bothered that she evidently thought him to be crazy, but there were more.. pressing things on his mind right now.

His amber eyes sparkled, watching her, before he bit back a sigh once more as she lowered her head, gazing intently at the ground just like before. In one fell swoop, it seemed as though all his progress with the mare had been lost.

Well, Demitri was no quitter, and he certainly was nothing less than determined, once he set his mind to something. And the golden stallion had certainly set his mind to this.

The silence dragged long, and Demitri simply stood there in silence, for the first time, unsure of how to proceed. She didn't look very impressed by them, and Demitri's curiosity was peaked. Was it something they - he - had said?

"Well, m'lady," he continued cheerfully, voice bright. "Aren't you going to tell us a little more about yourself?"

“One who does not truly know who they could have been cannot tell you more about themselves,” she replied, not looking up. She had true will to make herself more known to the two before her. She could only say what she was allowed. To tell them about Satan? That was forbidden and she knew it.

“Some things…” she paused then corrected herself, “Most things more than already have been said I am forbidden from speaking about.” The young mare sighed. “Though I can say that only one foal have I seen grow up, and another killed by the one who I was running with. I cannot say who that was, or whether he is completely in my past, for that is forbidden.”

Satan's power was still strong in her, and he would know every word she said. It was something that she would always be burdened with.

Demitri found himself blinking in surprise once more. Well, the mare was certainly unexpected, wasn't she? Full of twists and turns, like a winding maze that blocked progress at every attempt. And Demitri did love a challenge.

Despite this, he found himself unconsciously digging a little deeper within himself for an answer to her comment.

"I suppose that that is true... to a certain extent," Demitri said slowly, musing over his words, even as he allowed them to escape him and into the air.

"If we all focused on 'could have beens', well, the world would be a rather depressing place, would it not? The point is that we've all picked a path - voluntarily or not - and we've got to make the best out of it. So," he finished, flicking his tail and winking a little saucily at her, tail swishing gently behind him.

"Anything I can know about you?"

Demitri tilted his head, a sorrowful expression crossing his face, as he heard about the tragic life of the fae.

"Well," he said, sensing that there was still much she was not telling him. And against his better judgment, he decided to offer her a home, a haven, where none would touch her, or force her down an unwilling path.

"M'lady," he paused. "I sense that there is much sorrow, much heartbreak within you. And even though I know little of you, I have decided to offer you a home. A home where you will be protected, cherished."

A smiled at her, not deception in his sincere, amber eyes.

"So, what say you?"
