One Last Chance(Erosaf) Empty

Sunlight shimmered upon her thin bodice as her pillars tread steadily across the light hued sands. Deep ivy orbs probed the sands, hardly seeing the daylight about. Joints ached with old age, and it was sad to say that the gray hairs upon her pelt were increasing with the nights and days. Many told her that every day should be counted to its full extent, and she hoped to do so - with the coming battle. Times had changed, and times would change again as they ceased to exist. Even she knew that the end was quite near.

"Sigaf!" Blood Diamond called freely, her high pitched voice carrying easily on the gentle breezes. Although she could not see him, she was sure he was near. The rustling of nearby bushes told her that she would soon find her love, and in good enough time too. There had been something she had been meaning to ask him, but the thought had slipped her mind the past few days. It was about another young one, like Nadav had been several years ago. Why shouldn't they pass their genes on one more time before death?

The once powerful stallion sighed as he looked down at the rocks below being pounded by the ocean. He was resting on the ground getting so old and easily tired. He did not move too much anymore, his aging bones struggled to take his full weight for more than a few minutes. The time for him was rapidly approaching, but when he head Diamond calling, he lifted his head and he gave a weak but shrill neigh to let her know where he was.

The one proud eyes had lost the spark of youth that had lingered in them longer than he had thought. He hoped he would see her again. He wished he could go to her, to meet her halfway between where she was and where he rested, but he knew it would not happen. He would only end up hurting himself if he tried to go to her.

Another he wished to get to see one last time was their son. He had always loved Nadav and he hoped that his son was doing well wherever he was. Nadav was a son to be proud of and he knew that he would always do the right thing by his herd.

The big brown stallion felt almost clumsier than a newborn foal whenever he got up and that was something he did not like. Why had getting old taken so much from him? And why did he have to know that he would be leaving Diamond behind when he died for she still had some time left to her. Life was not fair when it was time for them to pass on it seemed.

There, on his favorite cliff he rested, waiting for one of the others in the land to find him.

For a moment, the waves were the only response she heard, rocking hard against the jagged boulders that laid close to the shore. It was possible that the worst had occurred, that she had been left alone without anything to remember him by. Both of them were old, but she felt that her beloved was in worse condition than she. To lose him forever would be but a misery she couldn't abolish until her own death. After his passed, she would welcome it with open arms. Surely, the stormy gray stag would take care of any child that was left before her unfortunate passing.

Although her hearing was slightly failing, she easily heard the bright whinny that erupted from her mate's maw high above her upon a cliff. Breaking off at a slow lope, she raced around the bend and cliff and clambered to the top where it was not too steep. Cesaria the word suddenly came to mind as she made her way up. Yes, I want a filly she thought, mind full of glee for once.

When she reached him, her mind filled with sadness again. She and Sigaf...they had spent a lifetime together. Now, cruel fate was separating them against their will. Suffering until her last breath - old age was not supposed to be like that. Only new life came to the beach now, and old ones were gone. Nearly thirty summers had she seen, but she was confident that she would see one or two more before she passed. If she didn't see at least one more...all truly would be lost, for the child would die within her, having no chance to escape and breathe its first breath.

"Sigaf, my darling," she said softly, as she approached. Gray hairs had long been upon her ebony pelt, flecking her features with age and wisdom. "I have been thinking...I only have a short time left her, as do you. I want to give Nadav a sibling..." she said, just wanting them all to live forever.

Oh how he wished she had come to find him about something like this sooner. It was not something he was sure if he was going to be able to do. Sigaf struggled to his feet, seeming as uneasy on them as he had been, a good thirty springs ago as a foal. Did he still have the strength for something like this?

He sighed as he looked at her quietly. These days he rarely spoke, for in all these years there had not been all that much to talk about. Other than the war, and that he had no interest in. A black stallion winged his way overhead, but he knew it was only their king, Thyrax, going to find Gloria, and Nadav.

“I hope it is not too late,” he managed. He was getting weaker by the day, but to see another of their foals running about before he perished… now that was a comforting thought.

It had been nearly seven mornings since they had last spoken, but Blood knew that it wasn't because they had grown apart. Simply, they had grown more quiet with age and thought more than they spoke. There had been a time when the two of them had charged into battles fought between kings, giving a gentle smile to each other as they assured their return to the terrain of peace. So many had considered them good and strong in their lives. She didn't feel so strong now...

There had only been one child of her life - Nadav. He was their heir and their love - he and the unborn child she would soon carry would be the only reason for her to live. Maybe one day their dear son would have a child of his own, but if only she could see that before their passing.

It would bring her heart a great joy to have one more child, even if it killed her in the process. She doubted that she would die though during child-birth since she was strong and knew the herbs to eat before.

"I hope its not too late as well. He or she will be wonderful, I just know it," she said with a slight smile and bob of her skull.
